The REAL Airfix 1/76 Commando set!

Well I will be d****d .... another mystery of "why" from Airfix. It's a bit like reading too much of the storyline behind the Dr Who episodes it just 'churns' the mind too much.

They DID take the big figures down to the 1/72 .. 1/76 .. HO/OO scale (see link below)

The glorious second edition figures!
But they are so "hard" to get and why use the inferior first edition figures?
What happened to them?
It does not make any sense to me at all!

Please can someone tell me the story?

  1. Next you'll be wondering why the 2ed YS Marines and German Infantry contain figures in two completely different scales ! ;o)

  2. O...now I'm not sure if I've got the 2nd set! I recognise the grappling hook throwing figure but it seems to be an omission from my collection unless they are in the loft. Were they issued as part of any set like D Day?

  3. I think they were part of a set
I have the D-Day set and they are not part of that

I think they could have been part of a VE Set (which I saw but darn it didn't buy)

However by the nature of the "scare commodity" to me means that the moulds have been more than likely lost and we will never see the likes in re-issues

  4. Whoops! Just realised my previous comment wasn't all that clear. Apart from the obvious typo, what I should've said is that those two Airfix sets (Marines and Jerries) EACH contain figures in two different scales (refer to jpegs). I vaguely recall reading some suggestion that this was due to some poses having been downsized from larger scale figures and others not...
