I finally got round to doing this for my youngest son, hanging a Spitfire from his bedroom ceiling (see below, question black cotton perhaps but at least it is airborne [alongside a Star Wars TIE Fighter which makes a strange bed-fellow]):

When I was a boy (and an Airfix 1/72 Spitfire cost two shillings) my friend John had quite a collection suspended from his bedroom ceiling. Sometimes the thread broke and a plane would crash onto the floor. I well remember the time a Sunderland flying boat fell to its doom!

ReplyDeleteI had a supply of planes that went from ceiling to floor (several times) and then eventually 5th November (UK) Bonfire celebrations (Flak casualties)
Several large Airfix ships (made and given to me by my brothers) went that way too - I remember one Tirpitz given the "Vesuvius" treatment
