Roll of Honour for "dead" blogs: "Tidying up Blogs I Like to Read" [1]

I was checking the bottom of my "Blogs I Like to Read" list and there seems to be deadwood.
Blogs that are no longer with us (sniff).
Lest they not be forgotten, they served to amuse me, I shall miss their passing.
I honour their digital memory!

I culled my list a while ago, Quite a number hadn't been updated in years

This a culling routine I regularly undertake.

Yes , it’s a shame to see them disappear as the more transient social media site took over . I continue to add to mine to keep my personal record

While there has been a slow decline in blog posting over recent years, I have noticed that recently, even against that background, there has been a real noticeable slow down in new blog material.

Interesting to see people noticing teh same phenomena!

I have recently coming back to blogging - partly because I have managed to slip WhatsApp photos more easily into saved pictures om my PC so they can then slip to my blog almost seamlessly!

Yes there are quite a few over a decade and now blank - a few seem to have been hijacked for other purposes!

I will have to take a leaf out of your book Jonathan

I am spending more time on WhatsApp and Messenger - I am now trying to combine posts on WhatsApp with Blog related stuff. For about six months I was chatty on WhatsApp and too tired to update my blog

I certainly was guilty as charged but then had a conscious effort to "get into the habit again" - Short and frequent seems to be the key.

I also have a clear out from time to time, but equally, add new blogs of interest as I become aware of them. Tbh I seem to have more stuff to read than ever! The WhatsApp, Reddit and FB groups have a different purpose really.

That is my issue, finite amount of time - multiple social media channels. The "alert me now" (WhatsApp/Messenger) means less time to spend with the leisurely blogging end .. ironically the Blog posting is far more rewarding .. and reading Blog posts more informative .. but I have to be "in the mood" as opposed to being interrupted.

Sad. Glad to see your blog still going as is mine.

Thanks, likewise, it did take a conscious effort to "consolidate" my online time and I had to prune certain distractions (on too many different platforms). If it meant I could not Blog I stopped it (Facebook) WhatsApp is OK as I link images and "interesting finds" between the two.

It's interesting to see how few of us old school bloggers remain. My own wargames blog languished for a time but I've tried lately to use it as a hobby diary but it's also getting some comment from some faithful regulars who i think of as friends. My fear is that some day Google will kill off Blogger altogether and then I'll have to think hard about whether to call it a day or maybe migrate to something like WordPress. Keep at it, mates.

Good to see that you are still blogging Mad Padre, I do like your blog. Likewise .. the fear of Blogger being dropped by Amazon is there for me too .. I know a friend Bob Cordery of Wargaming Miscellany fame, who takes a paper copy of his posts and gets Lulu to print a book of them .. a volume per year. The only thing he misses therefore is the comments or any updates to old posts (which sometimes I do). I see blogger as my scrapbook. I am not sure how easy it would be to create my own electronic copy. Somethings my kids may want to see in future years, this was Dad's daft hobby! I will have to think on that! The Internet Archive might help?
