War through the Eyes of Children: Last Witnesses (by Svetlana Alexievich

This is a haunting book. One hundred and two post war interviews with survivors who had lived through WWII and the German invasion of Russia in WW2. They remembered events through the eyes of a child their experiences, so personal and centred on their mothers and fathers, mama and papa (see below, no to be rushed, the audible experience created greater immersion for me - I found it hard):

A book I think both West and Eastern leaders and politicians should be made to read.

I think the West under-appreciates the sacrifice of the people of the Soviet Union in World War Two. The widely cited figure of dead is usually around 27 million. But I've been hearing that investigations in Russia have come up with 40 million - 'and still counting'. It would nor surprise me if that were the more accurate count.

Now Western Europe is seriously gearing up for war with Russia (for all the world as though the war in Ukraine wasn't their war all along). They have struck the first blows: theft of assets held in the EU; seizure of a Russian tanker; troops on the ground in Ukraine...

But Russia knows war in a way the West never can (nor, of course can I). Remember the four wise advices:
1. Don't tread on Superman's cape
2. Don't spit into the wind
3. Don't pull the mask of the Lone Ranger
4. Don't mess around with Russia

I do hope sense will prevail - that is to say, voters toss out the nincompoops running the UK, France, Germany, the EU and NATO - and bring in people with eyes to see, ears to hear, and brains to think. Yeah, THAT's gonna happen...
Cheers,
Ion

I cannot fault your logic Archduke Piccolo, nobody wins in a shooting war with Russia!
