Question to self: When will I play ... Harpoon? ... I have an old (as in a simplified for the non-naval officer, but still intended for a wargaming audience) "Captain's Edition" of Harpoon (a version dating back to last century), but still apart from a USN v USSR sub hunt (yes Red October style) or the whole Falklands Campaign - there does not seem to be much of an interest (or example case base) to play. However, Harpoon is on the great Wargaming Bucket list!

But what to play and who to play it with? Probably "The Falklands" with "a little help from my friends"

Little bit of a side-project: Modern US CVN Battlegroup 1/3000

This is one I have been thinking about doing for a while (as well as the 1980 RN Falklands Campaign), the advantage being this is less than a dozen ships all told (see Wikipedia detail):

Order of Battle:

• CVN
• 1-2 Guided Missile Cruiser
• 2-3 Guided Missile Destroyers
• 1-2 Attack (688) Submarines
• Specialist Ammo Supply and Oiler Support Ship

Possible rules for this are the traditional (pro-US) Harpoon or the more recent ShipWreck. Topical campaigns could include US tension with the Chinese over the Spratly chain of islands in the South China Sea.

Nice to see that I am NOT maintaining focus!

Sea Project: Ideas Appreciated ...

I have a "new toy" of sorts (see below):

A naval game looms .. the only decision is whether is should be:

• Ancients (new kit required, but I have always wanted to play Salamis with David Manly's Greek Fire and Roman Fury rules)
• Napoleonic (time to bring out Avalon Hills "Wooden Ships and Iron Men" with a small squadron of British versus a mixed bag of French and Spanish)
• World War One (General Quarters II, Dogger Bank or Jutland Battle Cruiser Clash)
• World War Two (General Quarters II, Narvik [done once already] or Mediterranean, or even a "Convoy"?)
• Modern (although this means I would need some new kit, but I always wanted to play Larry Bond's Harpoon)

Logic dictates that in the 100th year of Jutland it should be WWI, quite fitting as the corners are held down by Jutland books (and research wise a god excuse to try and sneak some of the new '2016' Jutland books in), but somehow Napoleonic seems so very, very tempting (lovely models to make).
