I have a strange (hot and cold) interest in the Russo-Jap war (as in I am trying to justify a large collection of 1/3000 Navwar ships of the period). So I was thinking to myself, maybe I should re-kindle it ("Gedit", ok corny joke) with some background reading. An Amazon scan revealed:

Note: I did have the two Corbett titles but my interest in the period waned and I passed them on (mostly unread, that was the problem - I just could not get into them, unlike the WWI books by the same author, which I devoured). Also for Corbett's books it seems strange how the Kindle version is the same price as the paperback one - at least the one that is currently available!
For my reference material on this period I fell back on a game (see above), the Russo-Jap 1904-05 Avalanche Press naval campaign game and David Manley's "White Bear Red Sun" naval wargame rules. A game and a set of wargame rules instead of books, crazy but true!

I would use the Tumbling Dice ships. I have them, they are lovely. There is a two volume memoir by a Russian Naval officer who was at Port Arthur and Tsushima. These are truly excellent and give a great understanding from the Russian side. The Osprey books are good and give quite a lot of information and images/illustrations.

A decent set of Wargames rules is often n all you need, especially for a more niche period. My RJW naval stuff is almost all based on the rules and scenarios in De Bellis Navalis by Colin Standish. DBA with battleships. I have complete navies for both sides.

Those Tumbling Doice miniatures are slightly (well much .. 1/2400?) bigger than 1/3000 and beautifully detailed, love them, but I had already committed to Navwar before they came around.
That is a good bibliography.

Barring strange memoirs and exotica (like £200 books from Barter Books) both Avalanche Press and David Manly have covered the background nicely.
I have seen the DBA version of RJW Naval and was intrigued ;)
RJW is the classic Ironclad pre-dreadnought battle!

The DBA rules are quite good. We use a mash up of them and the WW1 “Something is wrong with our bloody ships today” rules.
Tumbling Dice do the Tsushima rules. I have them but never played the set.
If the memoirs are £200 now, I am tempted to sell my copies!
